Catalog

There are three ways to explore the COVADEO catalog: an overview of all maps, an interactive map, and an interactive timeline.

You also can compare maps from the catalog.

Tutorial : Find an old map

To help you search for old maps and browse our catalog according to your own criteria, our search tools include a data filter. This allows you to refine your results by time and place, as well as by subject or content. You can use the word “AND” in the search bar to combine several keywords.

With the catalog

To view all maps in a list, you can access the catalog on this page. On the page named 'List', you can see all the maps as cards. To view all the data for a map, click on the button named 'detailed information' to open a complete card with all the data relating to the map. It is on this page that you can download files.

With the interactive map

This page features an interactive map displaying the centroids and georeferencing polygons of the different maps. Clicking on a centroid will take you to the full data sheet for the corresponding map.

With the timeline

This page features a dynamic timeline. The first visualization shows the number of maps across different time periods. Clicking on a period reveals the details of the maps, ordered by their completion date. For maps sharing the exact same date, a button shows the details of all maps associated with that date. For any map in this timeline, you can click the 'Detailed information' button to open a complete card containing all related information.

Tutorial : Compare maps

There are two ways to compare two maps:

  • From a specific map. On the list page, select a map that interests you. Click the compare button at the bottom of the map thumbnail. You will then be redirected to the comparison page, where your map will already be displayed. In the second drop-down menu, select the second map to compare.

  • In free exploration mode. Go directly to the compare maps page. In the first drop-down menu, select the first map. Once you have chosen the first map, select the second map from the second menu.

Please note that only maps which overlap geographically with your first map will be suggested.

Using the comparison tool (once you have selected both maps):

  • Please be patient while the maps load. Some high-resolution maps are large and may take a few seconds to display.

  • Navigation: You can zoom in and out and move around the map freely.

  • Comparison: Drag the vertical slider from left to right to show or hide the second map.
