Find a map in space

The COVADEO research project (Collection, Visualization, and Analysis of Geo-Historical Road Data) is supported by Bourgogne–Franche-Comté Regional Council, Marie and Louis Pasteur University, and the ThéMA research center.

The project aims to improve our understanding of how city road networks have developed over time. Ancient maps from around the world reveal how street networks were organized in past centuries and how they evolved.

Everyone can contribute to the collection of ancient maps! The more maps that are collected, the more comparisons are feasible and the more the study advances.

In addition to the catalog, all the maps are integrated into the COVADEO serious game to promote participatory science. Our goal is to collectively digitize road networks, enabling researchers to conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses of network structure evolution.

All maps are stored in a ZENODO data repository.
