Abstract

The experiences of crises and conflicts (excluding inter-state conflicts) that have affected the world since the end of World War II, and more particularly over the past thirty years, highlight that many of them have occurred in territories with ''strong constraints'' or ''spatial discontinuities.'' Within these territories, and after analyzing all the mountains on a planetary scale, there is a recurrence of armed conflicts where the mountain is omnipresent, whether in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, the crisis zone of the Sahel-Saharan countries, Yemen, or even in the context of latent conflicts such as that between China and India. In this context, the project aims to understand the irredentist dynamics in mountainous territories. Based on the concept of territorial intelligence, we propose a systemic approach to the territories of the Hindu Kush and the Adrar des Ifoghas, by articulating: an analysis of the geographical space, the actors' games, their representation, the places at stake, and the temporalities that link everything together. To do this, we rely on two field analyses enriched by a novel approach using a digital survey specifically developed in collaboration with an engineering consulting firm.
